E-scooters survive to ride another day

Transport authorities have extended an exemption allowing e-scooters to operate with little regulation.

The exemption means e-scooter rideshare companies such as Lime can keep operating.

Transport agency Waka Kotahi has renewed a declaration that e-scooters are not motor vehicles for another five years.

The renewal of the legal exemption, which was due to expire on Saturday, means rideshare services such as Lime and Beam can continue to operate.
