Jonathan Mitchell

Jonathan joined the NBR in May 2022 after a lengthy career with public broadcaster RNZ and freelance contracting.

He was involved in team coverage of some of the biggest stories of the past decade, including the Christchurch mosque terror attacks and Covid-19 pandemic.

His experience also includes four years reporting and presenting business news, as well as court reporting in Wellington.

Jonathan started his working life as a butcher’s apprentice in a family-run business in the sunny Hawke’s Bay and has a natural curiosity about people and places.

Outside of work, he enjoys travelling, coffee, the latest John Grisham crime thriller and binge-worthy Netflix series.
