Dane graduated from Otago University with degrees in film and media, communication and environmental studies. He spent five years working with startups and non-profits in China and Thailand. In 2017 he returned to New Zealand to study a postgraduate diploma in journalism. He completed a Master's degree in 2018. Dane is passionate about sustainable technologies and startups.
