Peter Newport

Peter started his career in New Zealand with the ODT, Radio NZ and TVNZ before heading off to Australia were he worked for both Channels 9 and 10 as a TV reporter. He then worked for four years as Channel 9’s European correspondent in London, before joining ITN as a senior news editor and then Bureau Producer in Hong Kong. Peter then joined BBC TV News in London as Deputy Editor before a long run as a freelance producer with the Discovery Channel and Financial Times TV amongst other clients. Back in NZ he worked with the Mediaworks current affairs team in Auckland as a senior producer, wrote for North and South magazine and then worked as RNZ’s Otago/Southland reporter in Queenstown. He is now managing editor of the community news platform Crux, based in Queenstown.
