Fresh back from California where she reported on the booming U.S. real estate industry for the past three years, Gill has written extensively about the New Zealand business scene between 2004 and 2013. On the launch team of the Herald on Sunday in 2004, Gill was Money/Business Editor, going on to write a weekly management column for the NZ Herald, as well as doing regular business profiles and assembling the small business online section weekly for the Business Herald.
Some career highlights working in the UK in the 1990s include working on the two Sunday Business newspaper launches, freelancing for the Financial Times, attending fashion shows in Milan, Paris and London as a business journalist, interviewing fashion greats including Jil Sander and Paul Smith as well as business figures such as Sir Richard Branson, the Body Shop's Anita Roddick and Luciano Benetton. Other adventures included reporting on real estate development plans for Berlin after the wall came down and later breaking stories on the Scottish fund management's industry's reaction to an incoming New Labour government.
Meanwhile a source of pride was writing a book for working mothers in New Zealand and Australia about why they rightly want to continue their brilliant careers after starting families. "Because We're Worth It," a whereto for today's working mother" was published by Penguin NZ in 2009.
