Australia set for international student caps

Numbers peaked at 420,000 this year but will be cut to 270,000 next year.

International students contributed an estimated A$50b to Australia's economy in 2024.

The Australian Government will press ahead with legislation to limit international student numbers even though the move is unlikely to have a major impact on immigration numbers or take the heat out of housing rents.

The Government is likely to introduce legislation into the Parliament this week
