Australia bans live sheep exports

As New Zealand overturns its ban, Australia’s Labor Government will introduce legislation to stop the trade.

The trade has been in decline, with numbers down about 90% over the past two decades.

Australia will end the export of live sheep by sea in May 2028, with the Government announcing a A$107 million ($117m) support package for the industry transition.
