Controversial advertising man John Ansell has cancelled tonight’s planned launch of his Colourblind New Zealand campaign.
Instead, a "private" meeting will take place, at which Mr Ansell says he will form a group to help him with his quest to form a political party.
The move follows Remeura Rotary Club pulling the plug on tonight’s planned launch at the club.
Mr Ansell says he was offered an alternative venue, which would hold 60 people, but after the feedback his campaign has generated he now says a larger venue will be necessary for a public launch.
“I have decided to pull the plug,” he told NBR ONLINE. “I am just a one man band at the moment but tonight it will become a five-man band.”
Remeura Rotary Club president John Burrowes cancelled Mr Ansell’s launch on Friday, claiming Rotary was a non-political organisation.
He also said Mr Ansell misled them on the nature of his event, something Mr Ansell disputes.
“I have put the evidence on my blog that they suggested I invite lots of people. I have put a series of exhibits. Rotary Remeura need to apologise and refund my travel expenses. But it shows unfairness is colourblind,” he says.

“I hope they will do the decent thing. Rotary in Wellington are ethical and treat me with courtesy. If anything, it shows people how I lay out my evidence and I will do this on Treatygate,” he says.
“It’s a private meeting tonight to create an organisation. A number of people have put their hands up, so I will make the most of that.”
Mr Ansell says he will contact supporters to tell them not to turn up at Remeura tonight, but instead there will be a "proper" launch in Tauranga and Auckland in the coming weeks.
