All eyes on next week’s economic, fiscal update

Politics: Forecasts of unemployment peaking near 10% now down; ASB now says 6.5%.

As Christmas approaches, the economic tidings look more favourable than earlier in the year.

That is not to say all is rosy. The ASB still expects economic activity to have shrunk 3% by the end of the year but that is way better than its expectation during the March/April lockdown of a 6-7%
